Fit for purpose
Some logo portfolios are filled with flashy logos with complicated blends of multiple colours and oodles of text. Sure, they look great when used small on a webpage but try to print one on your letterheads and you'll find that the limitations of print, mean that all those beautiful colours fill-in and the text becomes unreadable.
Depending on how the logo was constructed, you may also find that if you try to create a large vinyl graphic for your company van, or a sign for your building, the file isn't up to the job and you end up with a pixelated mess. Conversely, it's not unusual to see a beautifully complex logo designed for an exhibition stand that simply wouldn't make sense on a letterhead.
