Mark Coster

Founder of Pixooma

As many of you know 2024 marks Pixooma’s 10 year anniversary. In the past few months we have celebrated in many different ways. But at 10am on 10 October 2024, we will be doing things differently – that’s because we have created the first ever Pixooma Day.

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have already clocked the three mentions of the number 10. 10am on 10th October, which just so happens to be the tenth month of the year. But forget about the clever use of the number 10 I hear you cry, what’s Pixooma Day all about?

We wouldn't be here 10 years later without the support and loyalty of our great clients, so the idea about Pixooma Day is that we'll be 'giving back' in three key ways:

Pixooma Day (#PixoomaDay)

We wouldn't be here 10 years later without the support and loyalty of our great clients, so the idea about Pixooma Day is that we'll be 'giving back' to them, other business owners/managers and the local community in three key ways:

1. 10% Discount on proposals

Any proposal we've produced in the previous year that hasn't been approved prior to Pixooma Day will be entitled to a 10% discount (applies to graphic design elements only) on the amount quoted originally. Everyone who is eligible will receive a notification on Pixooma Day to that effect and letting them know that this discount will then be valid for 10 days.

2. Ask Pixooma anything

Got a burning question about graphic design, or creativity generally? Either comment on one of our Pixooma Day posts (on the day or in advance), or tag us in a post using #AskPixoomaAnything to ask us any design or creative questions. We'll respond to you as soon as we are able, and because it's likely that others will have the same question or perhaps something similar, we'll be publishing both the questions and the answers on LinkedIn and our website, meaning that everyone will be able to benefit from the advice.

3. Raising money for the homeless

As 10th October is also World Homeless Day, we thought that it would be a good idea to raise some money for a worthwhile charity too. So we'll be asking anyone with an #AskMeAnything question to consider contributing to this LocalGiving page for Wellingborough based the Daylight Centre Fellowship which helps those who are homeless or rough sleeping.

Giving back

Pixooma’s Creative Director Mark Coster explains more. “The idea of ‘Pixooma Day’ came after a coaching session with Paul Green. I have always been a huge fan of giving back and playing my part in build stronger business and local communities through active participation. Initially I wanted to piggyback another awareness day, but in the end, the decision was taken to create our own day. And by neatly fitting it into our 10 year celebrations by using the number 10 quite a lot, it started to take shape. Obviously, we have no idea what the take-up will be, but like all marketing ideas, you have to try. And who knows, if it’s successful, it could become an annual event?!”

Do you have business ethics?

You hear the word ethics and ethical banded about a lot these days, as increasing numbers of businesses want to attract customers by demonstrating that they display the right kind of values, principles and behaviours. But what does it really mean?

Good design is more than making things pretty

As a designer, I obviously want everything I create to look great, as well as being impactful and eye-catching. But good design isn't all about making things look pretty, it’s about so much more, including:

Could you be a one in ten?

For those of you who are old enough to remember the 1981 classic song from UB40 - One in Ten, all you need to know is that it might have been the inspiration for our latest client 10th business birthday promotion.
